SEO Marketing – now often referred to as “Search Engine Marketing” or SEM – is a hot topic these days, and it’s no wonder with more and more people using the internet every year. Most people use an online search as their “go-to” when they need to know something, and the number one starting point for online shopping is an online search.

SEO marketing, or SEM, helps online businesses by allowing them to target specific audiences. When you target a specific audience it means you have a higher chance of conversion and turning regular website traffic into paying customers.

There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration as part of your search engine marketing strategy. You need to be aware of how search engines work, what your customers are searching for and the exact keyword phrases they are typing in. The goal is to improve the relevance and popularity of your website so that it gets well positioned by the search engines.

SEO is not just about producing regular “fresh” content. It has to be the right content, and you should always choose quality over quantity. Google and the other search engines look at the quality and the structure of your site when they determine where to rank you.

Optimising your website and carrying out some SEO marketing isn’t something you just do once. Search engine algorithms are constantly changing, and your competition is likely to evolve and fluctuate too. The goal of a search engine is to show the most relevant results to the searcher, so your goal is to try and work out what the search engine wants and deliver it.

It also takes time. A freshly optimised website isn’t going to rank well overnight (and steer clear of SEO companies who claim they can make this happen!). You need to be constantly developing new campaigns and have patience and persistence. With a great SEO marketing plan, you can rank well and remain there without too much effort.
